When a HR meets a lawyer, what happens?

Yesterday, I met a senior HR person from a leading media giant in my office. It was an unofficial visit, so after exchanging pleasantries, the talk whirled around law and HR.

The HR said to me that they are very particular about law and when it comes to following law in the organisation, they try their best from getting their international contract to employment offer letter vetted from a very well known law firm of Delhi.


He also told me the reason for the same while sharing his experience of being caught on the wrong side of the law in his previous organisation.


He said, in one such matter, a very heavy media weight was made to appear in local district court by taking a charted flight. I offered him my Crimeshield programme and a small acid test of the prevailing situation.

I asked him about the compliance by the organisation to POSH (Sexual Harassment of Women at Work Place), installation of CCTV Camera in the office to collecting personal data of employees.

On first question along with the proof collected in seconds it was proved that organisation, is in violation of the above law.


He tried to argue further, by saying that no one does this. I left it to him to decide his fate and his organisation fate.


Second excuse, he came out was that its an start-up so they enjoy many exemption. I was smiling so within a second the status was reduced to start-up from the claim of international media giant, silicon valley and what not tag ?


Luckily, it was not the court and I was not the opposite counsel. Any way businesses please note there is no such exemption when it comes to law like POSH and Data Privacy. Read my previous article on the same.
