ITR Increased Date: Income Tax Department may extend the date! Detailed deadline for filing ITR

Are you one of worried lot, like me, getting regular email and SMS messages from Income Tax, reminding you to file your income tax returns much before the last deadline of 31,July, 2022 ? But, when you hit the Income Tax filling portal, you couldn't file the return owing to glitches at the official portal. Then, there is good news for you. The department has taken note of this genuine problem of lakhs of people and in its recent tweet, officially said, that the e-filing portal developed by Infosys is still facing technical glitches, due to which normal traffic cannot come. In such a situation, the last date for filing Income Tax Return may be extended.

So far only 10 percent of the taxpayers have filed their return. In such a situation, it is expected that the Income Tax Department may extend the last date for filing ITR. 

Due to technical glitches in the portal and the Corona epidemic in the previous last two years,  Income Tax Department had extended the last date for filing returns. Now experts say that this time also the deadline for filing returns can be extended. However, no order or information has been issued on this by the department so far. 

This year the last date for filing returns has been fixed as July 31, 2022. 

Income Tax Department official Statement
Significantly, the Income Tax Department said in a tweet on July 2, “The new software developed by Infosys is still unable to file returns continuously and the company is taking proactive measures to deal with these problems coming on the portal.” 

It has been observed that some taxpayers are facing problem in accessing the e-filing portal of Income Tax Department. As stated by Infosys, they are resolving the issues related to irregular traffic on the portal. In such a situation, some users may have to face problems, for which we are sorry.


Experts Opinion
Income Tax experts say that the department in its recent tweet has expressed concern about the problems facing the portal and has accepted the slow running of the website. In such a situation, it is expected that the department may be preparing to increase the deadline for returns.


Detailed deadline for filing ITR
The last date for filing income tax returns for individual HUFs is July 31, 2022, while the last date for filing income tax returns for those who require audit is October 31, 2022. Whereas the last date for filing income tax return for such business which requires TP report is November 30, 2022. In such a situation, if you also file a personal return, then fill it soon.
