15 DIE-HARD CHAMPIONS. ONE BOLD BHARAT. ZERO EXCUSES, UNDER THE UMBRELLA OF IIT, DELHI
There is a particular quiet that settles in a room when fifteen people realise they are not competitors. They are collaborators who simply haven't met yet.
That was the afternoon I had at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of South Asia.
Fifteen founders. From every corner of India. From law, professional services, management, manufacturing, agriculture, IT, the social sector, and marketing. Some had walked out of well-paying corporate jobs because the spreadsheet had stopped feeling like a life. Some were seasoned entrepreneurs, the kind who have already built and exited, now back in the arena because they wanted to build something that mattered more than the last one.
What stayed with me was a small moment. A young founder from a tier-three town was talking, a little hesitantly, about an agri-venture he had started after his father's small holding nearly went under. Halfway through, a senior founder from the IT side, someone who had every reason to be checking his phone, leaned forward and said, "Send me your deck tonight. I think I can help with the tech, and I know two people who'll write the first cheque." No drama. No posturing. Just one founder recognising another.

That is what the afternoon was made of. Quiet handshakes. Honest conversations about what isn't working. Phone numbers exchanged on the back of business cards. Three collaborations were already taking shape before the chairs were stacked.
This gathering took place under the aegis of IIT Delhi, mentored and guided by Prof. Seema Sharma and Dr. Alok Pandey of the Atal Incubation Centre, IIT Delhi. The calibre of the cohort, and the seriousness each founder brought to the room, speaks to the care with which this group has been put together.
We talk a lot about Viksit Bharat. We talk less about how it actually gets built. It does not get built in conferences with chandeliers. It gets built in rooms like this, where a farmer's son and a Silicon Valley returnee discover that they are, in fact, working on two halves of the same problem.
I came away grateful. And quietly optimistic.
