US opens up 250,000 visa applications for Indian tourists

The Embassy of the United States of America has announced that it will take 250,000 more visa appointments for Indian travellers, including tourists, skilled workers, and students. An announcement on 30 September 2024 said that US wishes to facilitate travel and expedite timely interviews with a view to expanding people-to-people ties to expand the already blossoming relationship. The announcement follows a bilateral meeting in USA between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden. US Embassy in India says that they have already taken more than one million non-immigrant visa applications for the second consecutive year. Student visas in 2024 were processed in record numbers, and all first-time student applicants were able to obtain an appointment at one of the five US consular sections around India. Now, the US missions in India wish to focus on bringing families together, connecting businesses, and facilitating tourism. Statistics provided show more than 1.2 million Indians have travelled to the United States year to date in 2024, a 35 per cent increase over the same period in 2023. The US Senate designating September 30 as a ‘US-India Partnership Day’, recognising the contribution of the two countries to one another and a relationship that continues to define the 21st century. During his visit to the United States, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on 22 September 2024 that the Indian government will open two new consulates in Boston and Los Angeles.pm Modi while interacting with the Indian diaspora in New York’s Nassau Coliseum.
